Embracing harmony

The Choir Project MCR was formed in 2018 by Musical Director Dan Mcdwyer aiming to bring communities together through song, giving everyone the opportunity to sing with confidence, meet new people and improve well-being. The first choir set up in Northenden has attracted over 200 keen singers since starting, averaging a weekly turnout of 70 singers performing a range of genres including pop, gospel and musical theatre.  Northenden Choir have performed at many community events across Manchester including pride events and various charity fundraisers. The choir have worked with artists including Rowetta Satchell, Kerry Ellis and Jane McDonald and have featured annually on ITV's Christmas Carols and most recently, Netflix's 'Toxic Town' set to be released this year. During lockdown The Choir Project MCR was involved in creating 'Together in One Voice', winner of Manchester Culture awards best event which brought together Thousands of residents from across the city-region to join in a joyous mass singalong.

Meet the Team

Dan McDwyer - Founder & Musical Director

Dan McDwyer graduated from the RNCM in 2016 and is now an established Musical Director, arranger and vocal coach. He currently holds the position of Musical Director of several choirs including Manchester Proud Chorus, Altrincham Show Choir, Northenden Community Choir, ‘Sing Their Name’, TomForte Dementia Choir & University of Manchester Staff Choir. Dan has worked as Musical Director for some of Manchesters most prestigious events including ‘Manchester Together’ and ‘Together in One Voice’, creating safe spaces for absolutely anyone to use their voice in a positive way.

Dan has worked with and produced choir arrangements for artists including Ariana Grande, Katherine Jenkins, Emeli Sandè, Lulu, Kerry Ellis, The script and many more. He has conducted choirs at most major stadiums and arenas across the UK, leading choirs for the rugby league World Cup and also previously working with choirs for choirs for Disney+ 'The Full Monty Series', Netflix ' Toxic Town', BBC 'Blue Peter', 'Children in Need', 'Songs of Praise', 'One Love Manchester', ITV 'Carols at Christmas' 'Royal Variety Performance' and 'C5’s ‘Jane and Friends’. He has worked on several musical theatre shows as musical director including Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, Cabaret, Witches of Eastwick and West Side Story in both London and Manchester.
